LESSON #11: FORGET FORGIVENESS
This Week’s assignment poses a much different way of looking at forgiveness. It is a powerful examination from an alternative view of emotional healing, a work in progress. I am excited to hear how you relate to this take on forgiveness. Olivia Porter is a speech pathologist, actress, and communications consultant, who has traveled the country facilitating high-energy, interactive workshops. In her impactful talk. She asserts that the true path to love is to forget forgiveness and harness hate.

Assignment 11.1
Summary
- Summarize the major points in the video.
- How does Olivia describe the difference between hate and anger?
- How does hate teach us what we love?
Analysis
Be cautious to separate the person from the action: “I hate what my co-parent does.” Not, “I hate my co-parent.”
- What “actions” do you find the most irritating or agitating about your co-parent?
- How does separating your co-parent from their actions help you focus on what makes you angry; what you value?
- How does Forget Forgiveness lead to problem solving?
Application
- Write three actions or statements you “hate” about your co-parent; how do you feel they have wronged you?
- Now turn those three sentences into “love” sentences; what they or you value.
Example:
I hate that my co-parent filed for divorce after our last fight.
I love that my co-parent decided it was time for an intervention.
Study Hall
- Discuss how perception (good, bad, hard to say) and separating the person from the action relate to co-parenting.
- How do you apply the three keys (conflict resolution) to forget forgiveness; especially acceptance and setting boundaries?
- How does this TED Talk lead to reconciliation rather than forgiveness?
