Summary

  1. Summarize the main points from Heather Lanier’s talk.
  2. What did Lanier mean when she said, “Good and bad are incomplete stories we tell ourselves?”

Analysis

  1. Examine your understanding of the way you perceive your world; do you perceive your experiences “good” or “bad?”
  2. Imagine how to re-frame the way you think about your co-parent. “Good or bad; hard to say.”

Application

  1. Compare Chapter 1 in your journal (perception and anger management) to this TED Talk on perception of god/bad.
  2. Give three examples of how to apply a shift in perception from your own life. (Example might be a shift in the way you think about feelings or parenting.

  2. Discuss the following quote: “As I think about (effective communication) in terms of parenting children, I’m finding that it’s shifting my perspective a bit. Instead of approaching conversations in a “teach them how to communicate/solve problems” way, I’m thinking about it in a “discovery” context. Discover what they are thinking and feeling and how that is shaping their perspective.
  3. Debate the perception question: When is a lie, NOT about a lie?
